How To Keep Journaling Consistently
Like many, my initial journey with journaling was a series of fits and starts. Enthusiastic bursts faded, leaving my journal lonely and dusty. It took 7–8 months of consistent effort to transform journaling from a chore to a daily desire.
I have been journaling for almost about one year now, and I can vouch for the immense reduction in my anxiety and improved ability to navigate through upsetting social interactions. I could rest assured that all the chaos in my head would find a way out at the end of the day resulting in a much calmer demeaner of mine than otherwise. However, complacency crept in, and within a couple months, my daily entries dwindled to a weekly one. I had forgotten that consistency isn’t just about starting, it’s about maintaining.
To reclaim this valuable habit, I embraced conscious reminders. Alarms and apps became my allies, namely, Habitica and gamifying my habits works wonders for me. Nudging me towards those precious moments of introspection. Keep exploring different formats — from bullet journaling to gratitude lists — kept things fresh and exciting.
The journey with journaling is a constant dance between effort and ease. It is important to find ease when you are struggling and keep reminding yourself of the resistance you got through once you have found the ease. After all, consistent journaling is an investment in our well-being, a gift that keeps on giving
